Douglas Clyde Kongshøj Wilson, Professor MSO in Fisheries Sociology, Sociologist, PhD. Michigan State University 1996 is an environmental and natural resource sociologist with extensive experience in marine governance in Africa, North America and Europe.

His research focuses on communicative systems theory and the analysis of institutional scale, marine governance and policy, and the sociology of science/knowledge. An important focus of his research has been the development of the knowledge base for the ecosystem approach and he has recently published a book on the subject. His current focus is developing the use of formal social network analysis to understand science policy interfaces in marine management.

He is qualified as a university level instructor in: African studies; development sociology; economic sociology; qualitative and quantitative methods including survey research; rural sociology; and the sociology of science.

He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Common Property Resource Digest and is a member of the Executive Council of the International Association for the Study of Commons.

He is the immediate past chair of the ICES Working Group on Fisheries Systems.

He has been the coordinator of three EU funded Framework projects:

SAFMAMS, www.ifm.dk/safmams links fisheries and the sociology of knowledge.

CEVIS www.ifm.dk/cevis examines alternative approaches to fisheries management

CROSCOG www.ifm.dk/croscog examines the management of various forms of natural resource commons in Southern Africa.

He has served as a work package coordinator on the PKFM, EFIMAS, UNCOVER, JAKFISH and KNOWFISH projects and was overall coordinator for social science for the latter. These projects all dealt directly with issues of science and knowledge in support of marine management.
